Did you get to the jury selection stage? The lawyers always use their power of arbitrary exclusion at this stage to get rid of any academics, as we're too skilled at seeing through flim-flam.

I've heard that -- generally anyone with professional qualifications, or just a lot of education. A juror with the capacity for analysis and critical thought is an unknown quantity -- much better to have sheep you can sway with rhetoric; then it's just a contest between you and opposing counsel.
